![]() In 1959, the Hermano, ably guided by then Bishop Antonio Frondosa, founded the Congregation of Penitent Sisters. The members vowed to offer their lives to the service of God and the Blessed Mother. They are committed to live the life of a penitent. They habitually wear the white guimpe and black veil. They do not wear shoes.
The sisters plant root crops, vegetables and herbal plants for their own maintenance. They have their own tools to use in their manual work. The water in the convent is boiled with a medicinal herb called hanlilib-on and is cooled. No one looks for cold water anymore. The late Hermano used accupressure and herbal medicines and have helped over 30,000 people in 38 years. The sisters are also actively collaborating with Malinao's local government unit for livelihood projects for the surrounding community.
The fourteen stations are 55 meters away from each other winding down the mountain. The winding tree-shaded path is carpeted with stone and grass and bedecked with falling leaves thorugh which the Penitent Sisters and thousands of devotees pass as they recite the Station of the Cross.
Nearby is a clear spring coming from the bosom of the hills, and going down in a form of a stream. It is named Hagakhak because during tropical rains when flood waters rush within its banks, a boisterous sound of laughter seem to emanate from the stream.
![]() In his urge to live in a cave, the Hermit found a suitable one in 1951. The Hermit's hut was constructed over this cave. It is wonderful to note that he managed to live alone without nostalgia for civilization. He lived in the cave for 38 years until his death on August 10, 1989. The cave is known by the name of Baeagtinan. According to the natives, there are times when the sound of a bell could be heard in the cave. When the Hermit transferred his abode in this cave in June 1951, many people all over the world and from all walks of life were attracted to come to him . He served those who came to him for help. He prayed and healed many who were afflicted physically, mentally and spiritiually and converted many to become devout Catholics.
![]() This cave became the tomb where the remains of the Hermano lie. Before the Hermano died, he encouraged the Penitent Sisters to maintain the natural habitat and the terrain of the Monastery for the next generation. Today, the Monastery is Heaven made on Earth for the environment-conscious and the hungry for solitude.
