It is also committed to promoting and protecting children's rights to survival, development, protection and participation.
Malinao is an interior town of Aklan which is 13.5 kilometers from the capital town of Kalibo. A Malinaonon once described Malinao as "a town where the rhytm of life is slow, almost lazy." But not so today. People now have the power and responsibility to decide for themselves what actions to take for their own welfare. Sustainability of the nutrition program in Malinao is ensured by the strong leadership of former Mayor Rosie I. Iguban (now Vice-Mayor) as chairman of the municipal nutrition committee, in partnership with the municipal government led by Mayor Joji Ilio, committed member agencies of the Malinao Nutrition Committee and the active involvement of community members. Effective surveillance of the local nutrition situation and delivery of appropriate interventions are made possible through coordinated nutrition activities undertaken from the municipal down to purok levels. The Malinao nutrition program as an integral part of the total development process of the municipality has integrated the different government thrusts like SRA-MBN approach, clean and green, human ecological security, Kabuhayan 2000, KABISIG Movement, and the different health programs, into a unified system. This strategy proved very effective in prioritizing targets and interventions which resulted to a significant reduction of malnutrition among preschool and school children by 16% and 17% for the past two years.
